Hi everybody, welcome to the second issue of the Newsletter of Victory, where I talk to you about where I’m at in developing this larp. I’ve added a few more people from the survey, and from the first run, in case they want MORE SHENANIGANS.
When Larp Happen?
The first run of this larp will be Friday and Saturday, April 12th and 13th, 2024. (Passover starts the 22nd, I checked! And Easter is weirdly early, March 31st. Eh, it works.) Depending on interest level, there may be a second run in November, but that’s way out there.
Where Larp Happen?
Right now there are two possible locations: a renovated Convent in Pittsburgh, and a GEODESIC DOME complex in Minneapolis. There’s a cool industrial lookin’ space right under the bridge in DUMBO that I’m keeping in my pocket but NYC is logistically and financially A Thing. This will disappoint my pal Isaac who offered an extremely cool site in Boston, but every other logistical and financial concern about Boston is also A Thing. WHY ARE THE HOTELS SO MUCH? ??
So how many tickets I offer will depend on which site I go with, but we’re looking at a best-of-both-worlds model where I will offer inclusive tickets for some folks to stay on site, and larp-only tickets for folks to stay in a nearby hotel/generally fend for themselves. THE DOME has fewer on-site sleeping options, but the nearby hotels are a little over $100 a night so it’s not too bad. (Thank you, Minneapolis.) The Convent has more sleeping space, but nearby hotels are more like $200 a night. The goal is for tickets that include staying on site to be about on par if not cheaper than a solo ticket+hotel costs, but things are up in the air.
What Larp Cost?
Obviously prices aren’t set, but the base ticket will be something like $200 per player. That will include two 6 hour game sessions including dinner on both Friday and Saturday, workshops with some less-intense lunch catering before those sessions during the day, event photography by the inimitable Matt Norris, a custom character with ties created for you and (fate allowing) refined with your feedback and input, a detailed and useful character packet/name badge/resource management system to organize your life and complete your ensemble, Exciting Wartime Experience Makeup Supplies on site, and other incidental props.
Inclusive tickets will probably range from something like $100-$200 additional per person, and will include staying at the site as well as ambient food at the house including requests for grocery runs, and access to the kitchen.
I will also be budgeting for some sponsored tickets, so if the price point seems daunting, there’s still hope. I’d like to take a page from the Sinking Ship book and offer Social Justice tickets as part of that pool, and will consider how best to approach that.
How Apply To Larp?
That’s a great question and the next one I get to wrassle with. April is my deadline for decisions and ideally official announcements / invitations to apply. Is this hella early? Eh, maybe. The Emperor Undying thinks in terms of centuries, we can handle a year.
What can you do to help:
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. Email, Facebook, Discord, etc, pester me freely.
And of course, keep sharing the interest survey! It only makes me MORE POWERFUL! Some of you are going to Intercon! Threaten those you meet with a good time!
